I was babysitting for this 4 1/2 year old little girl for the summer. I was out of college for the summer and it was the perfect summer job! Maddie and I would walk to the park everyday after lunch. Maddie loved to swing on the swings and go down the slide. She was a very good hearted little child and she always amazed me at the love she felt for other people. She had such goodness in her little heart. Both of her parents were the same way - - they always had such a peace about them -- I always wondered -- why are they so different?

That day at the park as I was pushing Maddie in the swing, we heard a bunch of kids laughing. We looked over and all the kids were crowded around one of the park benches. Maddie wanted to stop swinging and go over there and see what they were laughing at. We walked over and a little boy ran up to Maddie and said, "Come over here and look at this funny lady! She is dirty and smelly and she is crying!"

Maddie ignored the little boy and walked over to where the woman was sitting on the bench. She looked to be about 50 years old - though she could have been very easily a lot younger. It looked like life had been very hard on her. The little boy was right, she did smell and she was all dirty.

Where The Marxist "Social Gospel" And The Bible Part Company

It is said that history always repeats itself one way or another. Nothing could be truer.

For instance, look at what is taking place in our country today. Most Americans know that President Barack Obama and his czars are greatly influenced by the long-discredited teachings of Karl Marx. - View YouTubeThe United States is being undermined and frighteningly transformed before our eyes. We're not going to like what's in store for us if we fail to stop the madness. As of now, only a few brave legislators are speaking up. House Minority Leader John Boehner has accused the president of subverting and circumventing the Constitution by appointing so-called czars who are not subject to Senate confirmation or scrutiny.

The mainstream media has gone rogue and is no longer doing its job. It is merely a reflection of President Obama. Both are continuously working to destroy America in every way imaginable. Our liberties and freedoms are disappearing - View YouTube

The world of Karl Marx

When Marx was born in the early 1800's, the world's way of life was rapidly changing. The human race was exploring the new frontiers of scientific discoveries. Inventions such as the steam-powered locomotive, the battery, and the electric light were becoming a reality. The sewing machine brought convenience to women's lives. Prior to this invention, clothes and other materials were sewn by hand. Elias Howe made it possible to produce clothing for the masses.

John Stevens, with help from his sons, erected a circular railway in Hoboken, New Jersey, as early as 1826. Within the same span of time, the art of photography began to flourish. The doctor's stethoscope was developed, along with the typewriter. In 1828, the first telegraph in the USA was invented by Harrison Dyar.

On May 24, 1844, from the Supreme Court chamber in Washington, D.C., Samuel Morse sent out the telegraph message "What hath God wrought?" to the B & O Railroad Depot in Baltimore. Maryland.

The world was still in transition from the old feudal societies. One of the things that were slow to disappear within Western Civilization was the dramatic financial inequities that existed between the haves and have-nots. The working conditions for the average laborer were often pretty dismal. As the economy shifted from agriculture to factory- based industry, children labored alongside adults. The factory owners found children useful not only because they could be paid minimal wages, but also because their small stature made them more suitable to operate machines that fit in tight spaces.

It was during this time that Marx began to shape the philosophies of the rest of the world. Unfortunately, the thoughts that continuously flowed from his pen have incited revolutions around the world. As many as one third of the earth's people have been subject to communistic thinking in one form or another, as a result. Although the Soviet Union has given up its power, communist regimes continue in power to this day.

The mind of Marx

It's impossible to look into the mind and thoughts of Marx in one opinion piece, but I'll take a shot at it.

Marx looked at the social inequity and human suffering that existed in his day and tried to make some sense of it all. He believed that the world was an unfair and unpleasant place to live.

They Wont Let Me In

It was a beautiful Sunday morning. People were filling the church to its full capacity! As they entered, each were given a bulletin filled with announcements, topic of today's sermon, what songs they would sing and who to pray for.

At the end of the line stood an older man. His clothes were filthy and you could tell that he had not bathed in days. His face was covered with whiskers, for he had not shaved for a very long time. When he reached the usher, he removed his tattered old brown hat in respect. His hair was long, dirty, and a tangled mess. He had no shoes on his feet, and wore only soiled black socks to cover the sores upon his feet. The Usher looked at him turning up his nose at the old man and said, "Uh, I'm sorry sir, but I'm afraid we can't let you in. You will distract the congregation and we don't allow anyone to disrupt our service. I'm afraid you'll have to leave."

The old man looked down at himself and with a puzzled look on his face, he placed his old brown hat back upon his head and turned to leave. He was sad as he loved to hear the choir sing praises to the Lord. He loved to watch the little children get up in front of the church to sing their little songs. He carried in his pocket a small worn out Bible and loved to see if the minister preached a passage from the Bible that he had underlined. But he was respectful, and didn't want to cause any commotion, so he hung down his head and walked back down the steps of the big brick church.

If God is For Us...

Romans 8:28-31

"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He alos justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?" Romans 8:28-31

When a person becomes a Christian and they are striving to do the very best that they can to live the kind of life that the Lord wants them to, sooner or later they learn that they are going to be confronted with difficulties and challenges that are unique to being a child of God. And, indeed, there are burdens that we have to bear; things that, if we had never become Christians, we would never have to endure.

Some of the things that the Bible speaks about which we invite into our lives by choosing to follow the Lord are things like: Ridicule from people who don't care for anything concerning the Lord. People of the world don't care about the values and the allegiance that we pay to our Heavenly Father. The apostle Peter wrote, "In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you" (I Peter 4:4).

I Hope Your Box Is Empty!

It was on the sixteenth day of the 12th month celebrating his 75th birthday when he decided it was time.

Having been happily married, raising three boys, and continuing with great success, the family business handed down from generations before him, this now frail man had to make a decision.

His health had not been good over the past few years and the stress of keeping the business on course was beginning to wear on him.

The challenge was in deciding which one of his sons would take his place.

Each boy had the experience. Each one was capable of helping it grow in the future.

But each had different personal values.

The Greatest Thanksgiving

"Are you going grocery shopping today?" my husband, Roy asked when I picked up the telephone.

      "I plan to," I answered.

Thanksgiving was only a couple days away.  Everyone in our family would be coming to our house.  My funds were limited, therefore my box of coupons awaited me in the car.  I knew I had to be creative in my shopping that day.  I had to stretch every dollar.

For a few seconds, Roy sat silently on the other end of the line.  "Why do you ask?" I uttered, fearing what he might say.

"Nancy, there's a family with a half dozen kids that will not have anything to eat for Thanksgiving.  The little one is only five-years-old."

"So what are you saying?" I whispered.

"While you're at the store could you possibly buy something for them?"  Roy's words echoed in my heart.  GroceriesÅ  a five-year-oldÅ  eight in the familyÅ  My head began to spin thinking about the fifty dollars I had reserved for our family's Thanksgiving dinner.

In the back of my mind I counted the hungry guests who would be coming to our house for dinner.  I put my head down on my desk, already feeling defeated.

There's no way possible, I thought.  But the compassion I heard in my husband's voice struck a nerve inside me.

"Sure," I replied.  "But only if God helps."

"Thanks, sweetheart," Roy whispered.  "Just do what you can." He then hung up the telephone.  I finished my work and prayed all the way to the nearest grocery store.

Best Job In The World

I've been a mom (mother) for over 15 years now, and along with gaining spider veins, 25 pounds, and a few dozen worry wrinkles, I've also gained knowledge.

For instance, I learned a major lesson when my darling daughter, age 3, put her peanut butter sandwich in the VCR slot. It seemed she wanted to "watch" her lunch instead of "Little Mermaid". Trust me... VCR's do not eject Peanut Butter Sandwiches!

In the twelve years since that sticky incident, I've also learned the following gems of wisdom:

   1. A new mom really can get by on 3 hours and seventeen minutes of sleep per night. You could use the bags under your eyes to pack for a cruise, but at least the sweet smell of poopy diapers can act as smelling salts to revive you.

   2. If it's 2am and your toddler whines, "Mommy, my tummy hurts!", you have three seconds to react before his stomach contents wind up on your pillow case.

   3. A two year old can stuff half a purple crayon up his nose in the time it takes to tie your 4-year-old's shoe.
